Tribute to Neil Young at Benefit Concert - Asheville, NC
CITIZEN-TIMES.com: Take5 Online: Multi-band Neil Young tribute doubles as gallery fundraiser
Wayne Robbins and the Hellsayers and eight other bands will pay tribute to Neil Young at a concert benefit in Asheville, North Carolina next week.
"Neil Young is one of the greatest iconic musicians, he's up there with Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, they are the 'Fab Four' of modern American music," said Whitworth. Now a co-owner of the Grey Eagle, this show will be particularly fun for him as it will be only the second time since purchasing the club that he has takes the stage to play.
Gabriel Johnson, organizer of the benefit, will play double duty too, when he takes the stage as a member of the band Slowly, oh Seriously.
"I just love Neil Young and feel like he's so accessible," said Johnson. "He's sort of an art rock guy, has an artistic flair. His music seems a perfect fit for the fundraiser," he said. Each band will play three songs.
A fundraiser for the Flood Gallery, a new nonprofit multi-disciplinary arts start-up that will reside at 109 Roberts St. in the Phil Mechanic Building of Asheville's river arts district, the show is a chance to hear your favorite Young songs and help raise money for a good cause.
