Neil Young is Living with War Everyday

He's from Canada.
He's a hippie.
He's an old man.
He smokes pot.
He's a tree-hugger.
He's a flip-flopper.
And worst of all -- just like Dylan - he can't sing.

Blog-dale has exploded. I've seen the hate and the damage done.

For all of the angry, rage filled hate-mongers, you are absolutely right. For once.

Neil Young is from Canada. He is a hippie. He is an old man. He smokes pot. He is a tree-hugger. He is a flip - flopper. And, just like Bob Dylan - he can't sing.

Now that we have that straight, please do not post comments here regarding information that we are all well aware of. And get your facts straight before spewing your venom because you're putting sponges in the bells I once rung.

There comes a time when we're all living with war. And it seems as if that time has come here at Thrasher's Wheat. The comments have been both supportive and nasty.

So today, tell us something about yourself, your faith and beliefs. Your hopes and dreams. As for Thrasher?

i have been following/seeing neil for about 3 decades, and am quite accustomed to the haters and the closed-minded folk, who only like neil when he does what they like. grow up! he writes what HE wants. he ain't singin' for pepsi, he's singing for peace. and anyone who claims he did this album to boost record sales-ha! neil has one of the strongest, most devoted fan-bases around, and he does quite well. he always will.

if neil made a political album, then he definitely has something to say, because he does not typically step into that arena.

Obviously, the "buck stops" at the President's door. Should Neil have come out so strongly on this issue? I guess his political conscience has answered that question!!!!

However, if he takes an obvious "Michael Moore" approach, he is going to turn people off and ultimately lose credibility. An artist can (and should) respond differently to events than, say, a novelist or journalist. There are a lot of people (my self included) who are not happy with how the war is being prosecuted and feel lied to (and continue to feel lied to). However, this is not Vietnam, no matter how badly some people want to color it to be. Neil is 60 and has had a lot of ups and downs, like all of us. I hope it is a nuanced expression and not a characture of himself. If so, he could come off as a caracture of Jane Fonda. By the way, being Canadian really has so little to do with anything.

Interestingly enough, while hicks from red states equate "American" with being from the United States, anyone from the western hemisphere is "American." So Neil is indeed an American, having been born in Canada (which, for the poorly educated republicans, is in the our same continent of North America) and having lived in the US the vast majority of his life.

I was under the impression he was an American citizen as well, not that any of this is relevant, but I could be wrong. Someone who thinks he has no standing to criticize our government becasue he was born in Canada probably has nothing of substance to say for themselves.

I was a teenager in the late sixties and was cool with it all until John Lennon went to "bed for peace". HOw arrogant is that. People ripped on Nixon but Kennedy and Johnson are the ones who escalated the war to such an extreme. But back then the Hippies weren't democrat, they were for what was right. They went after Lyndon Johnson and Nixon. Today it is right or left, democrat or republican, ACLU or KKK.

If this is an oil issue then, yes, we are wrong. And if it is and we the people don't want to drill in Alaska PLUS we bitch about $4 a gallon gas, what is the answer? I know the answer is not war, so don't take that statement wrong. People don't like Bush because he is point blank, he stands firm on his committments, right or wrong. He backs up his administration 100% and you know: I like that. Have you worked for someone that didn't stand up for you? Have you been with someone who wasn't with you? I HATE THAT trait in people!!!! But impeaching Bush isn't the answer and it is another waste of our time and money, just like the Clinton crap was. We never let Clinton govern whatsoever so we will never know what his capabilities were as a president. So let's find a good candidate for 2008...let's get them in the White House and move on to the future.

Last but not least I am one of these people that when I go out I want to be entertained and not preached to. So Linda Ronstadt, Dixie Chicks, Springsteen don't tell me what you think. I am smart enought to read the facts and listen to both sides of the argument and come to my own conclusions thank you very much.

I took my 6 year old daughter. She thought his voice was wonderful (I don't even think that) and that it was a great film.

Ironically, we were listening to NPR on the way to the theater when George Bush came over the airwaves. She told me to turn it off.

Again, this is not my mandate. I like to listen to the news and I don't turn off ole George when he comes on the TV or radio.

I must be doing something right, because I am teaching my child to think for herself.

My child has a heart of gold, may she always continue to look at the world with a critical eye. Kids like her may save us some day.

Listen, before 9/11 I thought and spoke like you.
Since then I decided to educate myself by reading
a lot of books by thinkers on all sides regarding
just who the enemy is. Most of my liberal friends
want to blame everything on Bush and don't even

Some nations, Japan, Britan, Russia, look at the U.S. as a role model, and copy our success, while other's LOATH us (Iran, N. Korea, CUBA, France, for our success.

We give more in money, food, medical supprot than all other nations combiuned. We contribute more scientificaly, and in research, well, you get the idea, yet countries still hates.

Chili don't care-SCREW them. Chili long ago gave up on countries and whta thye think of us (if it's bad).

and getting to Neil, I love the guy. ALMOST named my son after him (glad I didn't now). I always looked at Neil as a guiding light so to speak. He always had a good view on most things and it was nice to hear his opinion....Until now. He and I couldn;'t disagree more. He's just plain wrong. His lyrics are wrong. His song contains the lies, far more lies that GWB ever said. Lies in his songs in which I can proove.

I play guitar, I know TONS of his music, both ellectric and accoustic and on the harp too, but I have not palyed it in weeks. So Chili feels the pain of losing a good friend, (even though it's one sided).

I think as a nation, we need to stick together during war. One can still critisize while at the same time, not helping our enemy and actualy prolonging the war.

I think once you commit, you finish the job-it's that simple. The more the enemy sees "division" the more they think they are successful and will continue to fight-this is simple really. They can play a Neil Young album to Osama and say "see-we are breaking them down slowly" and they will continue.

Neil has HURT things, not helped them. Sure it sound cute "PEACE and STOP THE WAR" and all that nice flowery shit, but your just prolonging the war.

War ain't pretty. One must deliver a knock out clow or it will continue forever. Let Chili site some examples:

Once Mr. Tucmsus Sherman (SIC) he had to deliver a death blow to the South or that war would have never eneded. He had to make so bad that the south BEGGED for peace.

Japan, same thing, ask yourself this...if the Adom Bomb was so bad, why did we have to drop two? Because Japan had committed to fight to the last civilian. well, we saved lives by dropping them. Ours AND theirs.

Wars/Operations were we left out half assed are still going on today. Korea, Iraq, Sudan, Cuba, the first World War....

We have to make it so bad for the terrorist, or they will just hit us again. we pull out, it's over here in the U.S.

I'm in strong disagreement with Lazy Lou where he says "we can live with a few mall bombings" that;s just sick man!
