New Anti-Neil Song: "Neil Young (Have You Forgotten)"

Sometime folks ask why Thrasher's Wheat posts anti-Neil news. Well, for one thing - most of it comes across as totally ridiculous and tends to have the opposite impact, i.e. it only strengthens Neil's credentials in the end.

Here's another example. An MP3 from stereogum: Them's Fighting Words, Doc.

The MP3 is by Dr. Bruce L. Thiessen "Neil Young (Have You Forgotten)" (MP3) (Play directly by clicking icon).

Dr. BLT on stereogum: comments:
"I just so happen to believe that Neil's latest effort is an attempt to distance himself from another song, Let's Roll, which drew him sharp criticism from the left."

It's kinda of a hoot. Thanks Dr. BLT. No, Neil hasn't forgotten. Oh, yeah. He's Canadian. That always hurts.

hhhmmmm, is seems we can all agree on this being THE worst song to grace the airways

First of all, let's not assume "we can all agree" on anything. I'm another anonymous listener. I hang out with a very intelligent crowd at my High School. Most thinking, intelligent kids that I know think it's one of the best songs to grace the airways.

It seemlessly fuses R&B with a distinct rock sound and it has apparently generated a great deal of dialogue over the internet, something good art tends to do. It just goes to show that one idiot's piece of crap is a smart, reasoning man's treasure.

I agree it seemingly fuses pieces with crap seamlessly. If you're crap, then you don't know anything other than like pieces and therefore, if you hang out with other pieces of crap at high school, you wouldn't know one from the other, or the other from one. Either way, there's only one common area to agree on anything if you're all the same and that's in crapper.

Wait wait, Most thinking intelligent kids think this song is good? Not likely. It is terrible and amateurish by any standard. A bunch of loops with a guy almost talking?
Please. What highschool is this, and if it is true, damn do kids these days need some taste in music and some lessons in musicianship.

"Since the conservatives have lost Merle Haggard... what are they gonna do?"

This is false. I've got inside information from Merle's right-hand man of 20 years, Mark Yeary, formerly of Mark Yeary and the Strangers, who produced this song of Dr. BLT's:

Merle Hasn't Lost His Fightin' Side
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/MerleVeryLast.
mp3

(currently on the playlist at a New York radio station WFMU)

For those of you who are giving Dr. BLT hate, all I can say, based on what I know about Dr. BLT, insults from idiots will be received as compliments from kings.

Also, Dr. BLT is a peaceful loving man who doesn't ask for words of praise, but insists that:

Right-wingers Need Love Too
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/rightwingers.mp3

(from the critically acclaimed CD of the same title).

Here's a message Dr. BLT would like me to deliver to you:

"I love all of you, even you haters, because you've made Neil Young (Have You Forgotten) a very popular song on the internet."

He's too modest to say it, but this song is already nearly as big as The Black Santa Song, a song he recently placed in the top 30 among mp3 downloads.

The above commenter is absolutely correct. As far as what I have heard, Neil Young (Have You Forgotten) was simply intended as a friendly reminder to Young to keep things in perspective. Bush is not the cause of all the problems in the world.

Furthermore, it seems Dr. BLT has been falsely maligned as being anti-Young, when quite the opposite it true. Somebody else has selective memory, forgetting that when Young's father passed away, Dr. BLT wrote this:

Father's Day Song of Sympathy for Neil Young
words and music by Dr. BLT (c) 2005
http://www.drblt.com/music/FathersDayYoung.
mp3

If that isn't evidence enough, read Dr. BLT's reviews of Are You Passionate, and Prairie Wind:

http://www.tollbooth.org

You'll never find a bigger fan of Neil Young's than Dr. BLT.

It's not just one High School. Kids all over the United States are embracing this song, dude. We're not crap, we are the younger generation, and if you're too old to handle songs like Dr. BLT's new internet hit, then, well, you're just too damn old.

I can understand if some of the older folks out there don't appreciate the electronic direction that modern music is taking. I don't blame them for wanting to hear real instruments, so I'm offering them this:

Do you actually think our good doctor is going to be fretting about your opinion, Martinlav? He's had hits, he've been in an award-nominated MTV music video, and he's got plenty of fans who disagree with your assesssment. Like the good doc has said before, he takes "insults from idiots as if they were compliments from kings."

There are other songs of Dr. BLT's that I like better, though this Neil Young song is also pretty good. My favorites are these:

Home:
Practically Poetz
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/homeone.mp3

and this one is pretty hillarious, but also conveys a message:

You're Not the Kind of Ho (That Santa Had in Mind)
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/hosong.mp3

You guys have got to check these out. I don't mean to get on your case, Martin, but you can't put this Dr. BLT in a box. He's got so many styles, and so many songs, that if you form an impression based on a single song, you are making a big mistake.

Have you guys who enjoy Dr Crap ever listened to neil young? Im 19 and I think thats young enough to be able to say that this song is crap and that I'm pathetic for even listening to it. It's a song that a random computer song generator could spit out. It sucks.

I loved you in Cake's music video for Short Skirt/Long Jacket, Dr. BLT. Please don't let a few idiots with horrible taste in music discourage you from coming out with another top 30 download song.

I found a Dr. BLTune for you old foggies that can't handle computer-generated music. BTW, I'm a huge fan of Dr. BLT's and most of his music is not computer-generated (not that there's anything wrong with computer-generated songs).

Dr. BLT has an underground following, mostly consisting of teens with high IQs, so those of you with low IQs won't appreciate much of what he has to offer.

This is his rebuttal to the Stones' Sweet Neocon, from his forthcoming CD, No Sympathy: A Bittersweet Tribute to the Rolling Stones:

Thanks for sharing that, link. I have to admit, I wasn't big on the computer-generated stuff either, but Time Was Never On Your Side is awesome! I think I'm slowing becoming one of Dr. BLT's underground followers.

I know this may sound a little extreme, but though he's not as polished a performer, I'd put him right up there with Green Day in terms of his songwriting skills. He's particularly good at lyrics.

I think the good doctor is posting fake anon posts, as if someone takes him seriously. The last song is also a joke. He can't even sing in tune.

I'm sick of hearing Dr. BLT songs. That's all my kids ever play day and night, and every time he comes on the radio, they won't let me change the channel. You kids can have your Green Day, your Eminem and your Dr. BLT. I'll take the Beatles any day. He may be as good or even better than Green Day, I grant you that, but he'll never be as good as the Beatles.

Rumor has it that the old foggies, the Neil Young fans, who are against Dr. BLT, and don't like their kids listening to his music, are posting a bunch of fake anonymous comments pretending to be greater in number than they actually are.

I heard that the old foggies, aka the Neil Young fans, who can't stand their kids listening to Dr. BLT songs are posting fake anonymous comments and multiplying them across the web so as to make it seem that their numbers are greater.

I'm sorry, I am the anonymous commenter above. I thought my first comments never took, so I basically said the same thing twice. I shouldn't actually be spreading rumors, so I take back what I said.

Actually I'm kind of enjoying this battle between the over the hillers and the youngsters. Basically, as I see it, it's not really about age, along the young, "in" crowd tends to react more favorably to Dr. BLT.

It boils down to whether one has good taste in music or not. If somebody has good taste in music, he will like Dr. BLT's music. If he/she does not, or if he/she has something against Dr. BLT's politics, he will not like it. That's why we live in a free country. One can choose to either listen to the music of Dr. BLT or not. Apparently, based on his recent top 30 hit, alot of people are choosing to listen. I'm sure the good doc doesn't care why they listen, as long as they listen. Whether they are listening because his music makes them laugh, or whether they are crying because they are touched by the sentiments he expresses, Dr. BLT will have the last laugh.

Dr.BLT,
I take everything back that I posted earlier, your musical style and prose are far superior to anything I've ever heard. I finally took the opportunity to go in my childrens room and listen to what they listen too. And while sitting there in the fog and haze of a drug induced mood, it struct me while I was playing on their MySpace web page, trolling for teenage girl friends of theirs, that you are a genius. Your connection is so simple I almost missed it by having my head filled with so much 60's style peace and love crap that I couldn't appreciate your true superiority.
Well Doctor, you have won me over..I will never listen to that over the hill old fart Neil Young again. He's senseless whiny voice has finally cracked my ears and I will never put down my iPod of Dr. BLT's Free Downloads here: WWW.drblt.music.com

I appreciate hearing from all of you. I am Dr. BLT. Yeah, right! I wish! Who wouldn't want to be him? I only wish he were right here interacting with us like the wishful thinker who suggested he might be faking anonymous entries.

Disguising himself as anonymous or not, that would be a dream come true. It's too bad that now that he's rich and famous he doesn't have time for common, ordinary fans like us any more. Quite frankly, I'm a little pissed off about his inaccesibility.

I suggest that we gather all of the millions of Dr. BLT albums, Tee shirts, Dr. BLTrading cards, posters, lunch kits, all of that stuff that we are so sick of finding among the youth of today, gather it all together, and have one big burning ceremony.

At 5/17/2006 07:14:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Didn't they try that with the Beatles? It doesn't work, but nice try, whoever you are. It would only encourage them to go out and buy more Dr. BLT music and gear. I suggest an alternative. I suggest that we, the old adult Neil young fans that they call old foggies just act like we like Dr. BLT music. I can see it now, grown adults listening to songs like Neil Young (Have you Forgotten) and You're Not the Kind of Ho (That Santa Had in Mind)
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/hosong.

When the youngsters think that their old-foggy parents actually like the stuff, they won't think it's so cool anymore.

Let me assure you that Dr. BLT is no amatuer, though he tries to get the lower IQ folks to believe that by disguising his genius with low-budget recordings. After listening to enough of his tunes, you will get hooked, especially if your IQ is extremely high. Allow me to let you in on a secret that, up until now, only his inner circle has been in on: You have to listen to about 20 songs (representing rock, rap, alt rock, gospel, country and "hick" hop) before you will finally come to the conclusion that I have. This artist is a genius, and we are honored that he is blessing us with free mp3 recordings to add to our collections. If you are out there somewhere, shamelessly self-promoting or not, please reveal yourself, and give us a sign that you are out there.

I'm just a football jock from North High in Dallas, Texas. If I may be so bold as to butt in to this conversation, all ll I can say is this: Dr. BLT music is all we listen to prior to the big games--- the ones that really count. Our cheerleaders also use them as an integral part of their routines, and the songs really get us charged up. I know it's unusual to hear stories like this from jocks. Usually it's the more hip young, intelligentia that play his tunes, but let me tell you, he's got a pretty broad audience. Our parents all hate him. They are always putting down Dr. BLT, System of a Down, and Cake. We don't care. We are hard-core high school rebels.

In New Zealand if you like Dr BLT(is that a burger from burger king?) you get traded as a sex slave in Papau New Guinea(this is an island full of only old men). Neil young kicks ass (get ragged glory!!). Finally, if football jocks are so tough whats with all that padding. Play rugby, that will make the mannath.

You guys are not going to believe this one! My grandma passed away last year at the tender age of 29. She died of an STD. Well, she had always loved that song Dr. BLT co-wrote with DJ EJ:

Autumn's Castawy
words and music by Dr. BLT & DJ EJ
(c)2005
http://www.drblt.com/music/autumn.
mp3

Well, we all agreed that this would be a killer tune to play at the funeral (no pun intended). But things became very rushed, and the only CD I had in my possession of Dr. BLT's was a CD with that one and a bunch of others on it, so I turned it over to the guy directing the funeral ceremonies.

To make a long story short, the sound man at the funeral ended up mistakenly cuing the CD to this Dr. BLTune:

You're Not the Kind of Ho
(That Santa had in Mind)
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.com/music/hosong.
mp3

Needless to say, the whole crowd, knowing how my grandma was, busted out laughing right in the middle of the funeral. Actually, knowing what a great sense of humor my grandma had, she was probably looking down from heaven laughing, or at least smiling.

The above post was obviously submitted by a jealous, angry troglodyte with extremely poor taste in music and no sense of humor. We all love the music of Dr. BLT, so if you're going to bash him and his excellent songs, please find another place to do it. Have you ever made the top 30? Are your songs on the playlist at New York radio stations? Have you ever had a cameo on a hit MTV/VH-1 music video nominated for Groundbreaking Music Video of the Year on the MTV Video Music Awards? Have your songs aired nation-wide?

Have you ever written a song this good?

We wish he would interact more with his fans, even if it were in a shamelessly self-promoting way. We'd do anything to hear from our favorite rock star. Personally, though, I don't think he's better than Green Day. Well, perhaps better than their new stuff. Coming to think of it, yeah, the doc rocks. Dr. BLT is better than Green Day, Sum 41, Good Charolette and most of the bands out today. Dr. BLT---you rock!

Nice try. This is the real Dr. BLT, as opposed to the poser above who probably wishes he was me.

I would like to request that all of you stop entering comments here. I don't want to hear any more insults, or words of praise for that matter, from all of you fans (who I otherwise appreciate very much). But I never asked to be famous, and all I want to do is to be left alone. But before that, here is a song for all of the senior citizen fans of Neil Young. I always try to please both my fans and my critics (at least the ones who show a little respect and are constructive).

I tried to give this version of the song a more old fashioned feel since I understand you are not ready for the modern Dr. BLT stuff that all of the High Schoolers and College students are into:

You honestly think that Neil Young wrote this album as "an attempt to distance himself from another song, Let's Roll, which drew him sharp criticism from the left." ???

Apparantly you haven't paid any attention to his long career. He does what he wants whenever he wants to do it. I don't know the man personally, but I'd bet Neil Young doesn't care at all if people criticize him for writing the song Let's Roll. He's made a career of welcoming criticism.

At 5/19/2006 05:43:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I cannot claim to know Neil Young, be able to read his mind, or to understand his motives. I can only speculate, and that is what I have done.

Have you forgotten? The song is put forth as a question to Neil Young. I want to know if he has forgotten, I'm not automatically assuming that he has.

Furthermore, I want to make clear that I am a huge Neil Young fan.

Now, we've pretty much beat the topic of my song about Neil to the ground, so I suggest we end this.

Thanks to all of you, the fans, the commenters pretending to be me; the commenters pretending not to be me; etc. I love you all (except the real mean one, and I'm working on that), even though I can't possibly please you all. If you hate my music, I only hope that someday you will learn to appreciate it, or that I will get better with practice.

Dr. BLT is about to leave the blogging building.

It's kind of funny that Dr. Sandwich himself has to remain anonymous. It's almost as if all those comments about how the k00l kids were listening to his song were written by himself. The song in question sux, and is generally irritating politically - one of those whiny neo conservative brainless repetitions of "911" as an answer to everything. Yawn. Gnarls Barkley, now - that's the way to do computer generated music.

Riding Neil Young's coattails should work out for this guy for about 15 minutes, and then no one will remember whatshisname.
