Loved the Cortez closer, and then The Sultan (never seen that before) - whoa.
Loved the set, the energy, and the rocking. Neil unarguably still has it, wowwing the kids to their grandparents, and everyone in between. Couldnt have asked for anything more.
hopefully the full set will be available soon.

I overheard two young guys, probably in their early 20s saying Ambulance Blues was their all-time favorite song. He played it second in the acoustic set and it was simply beautiful. The first set was incredible for its variety and Neil was definitely into the show. He had some banter with the crowd, especially when he dropped a line in ATGR after some yahoo shouted something. The electric set had something for everybody. I've seen Neil numerous times but have never seen him rock like he did for No Hidden Path. He was just blistering 'Ol Black. I agree with other posters, this is bound to be a classic. The encore included Cortez the Killer. Just amazing to see this one live. The second encore was The Sultan. I was amused to see folks in the audience looking at each other wondering what in the world was happening when the gong & genie character came out on stage. What a rare treat to hear this one live. I brought my teenage son (who knew about this song) and he said "it was cool." As for Pegi, I had not heard any of her material so didn't really have any preconceived notions. I didn't think she was nearly as bad as some of the negative postings I've read. Keep rockin' Neil.

Cortez was as pleasant a treat as I have ever had at a concert. I was watching the Sugar Mountain set lists and was sure Cortez would not be played, but you know Neil. I loved the fact that it started slow and then went to a full on dirge. The man can sure chase away some demons with Old Black.

The crowd,yes.Stupid rantings during the acoustical set,show the man the respect he deserves.Then during the electric set a bunch of sit in the seat fuddy duds, a nice way of putting it.I went to a rock concert and jammed.How did Neil do it during No Hidden Path? I was worn out after that.If I have the opportunity, I'll drive farther to see that again, although probably not back to St. Louis.Then an encore with Cinnamon Girl, a so so song, and a beautiful version of Cortez the Killer and then the show ending Sultan.Hey Neil,keep the archives and keep making NEW ROCK N ROLL! By the way St Louis,we did like the arch.Also,who was in charge of the merchandise? That was the worst ran thing I've ever seen. But let me end on a positive note, the Fox was fabulous just as Neil was.

Neil keeps on latching onto the epic jam that makes him so unique on his rockin tunes and that was definately No Hidden Path... its in the same league with Love and Only Love, Love to Burn and Change your Mind. You knew something was up when Neil was talking to the band after Cinnamon Girl and Ben Keith was not getting ready to play the peace dove keyboard on Hurricane...dancing on the water-Cortez Cortez, what a killer and it was killer, thanks Neil.

I'm guessing they're pictures of his kids. You know, kind of like having family photos in the office. If anyone knows the story on this I'd be interested.

And yes, I think No Hidden Path is in the vein of Love and Only Love - you get lost in the solos.

He actually started singing the wrong verse on After the Goldrush. He then stopped himself and said something like, "see what happens when you guys yell out stuff". Everyone laughed and he picked back up on the part he was on. He seemed to be in a pretty good mood.

The sound in the theatre was great and totally worth the drive from Nebraska.
At 11/20/2007 08:46:00 PM, robert worsham said...: i drove from tyler,tx down to baton rougue,la(LSU) picked up my daughter natalie and drove to st.louis for the concert. long long drive. seeing neil for the first time at the FABULOUS fox was worth every mile. we sat in the lower balcony and has field glasses. it was awesone to watch neil manhandle the guitar on no hidden path. that man can touch the sweet spot in my music brain center like no other guitarist. i was wowed by his vocals and energized the whole experience. my daughter had only been to one other concert(little feat)and she was duelly inpressed. we stayed at the cheshire lodge, i highly recommend it for your next trip to st.louis.

My uncle had a set list he had drafted from the net and we had all the cds in a box, and had a concert before the concert. (We had a long car drive.) At first I didnt like the idea of knowing what was coming before I heard it. I must say that it didnt matter once the show started. Knowing what was coming or not, Neil kicked my ass. The acoustic set was good, with the highlight for me coming on After The Gold Rush when Neil went into the second verse when he was on the third. "I was lying" was all he got out when he stopped the music and said "No I wasn't" then proceeded to go back into the song and finish the third verse. Only Neil could mess up that bad, and still manage to rule so much.

The electric set was mind boggling. The Loner came on and I had a constant orgasm through the rest of the show. The songs off the new album were great. Dirty Old Man hit hard and heavy. No Hidden Path was simply amazing and I was physically worn out when it was over. I knew he had been switching the encores after Cinnamon Girl, and I was hoping for Tonights The Night. When he went into Cortez the Killer, my uncle and I looked at each other and yelled out "CORTEZ THE KILLER". Just awesome, although I think the band was lost at the very beginning of the song as it looked like Neil had to go to the drum set to get in time with Ralph Molina. Blew my mind and I felt like I had run a marathon at the conclusion. The Sultan was a groovy instrumental complete with a huge gong that wrapped up the show nicely.

Great show although I would have to agree that the crowd seemed like they had taken a handful of valiums before the show. Neil is up there rocking his ass off, injecting his soul straight into the crowd's vein with an electric guitar and an amplifier, and 90% of the crowd looks like their there for an opera.

Having said that, it didn't keep me from rocking myself into a sweaty frenzy. I love Neil Young and I hope he keeps putting new music out.

Variety of Neil is what I thought made this a great show. I have been a Neil fan since 1970 when my brother brought home Evertbody Knows this is Nowhere from College. Love that song....Oh Lonesome Me too. Acoustic set was impressive..however I agree with many others...Neil Young is still a great ROCKER. Hidden Path, Cortez the Killer...Thanks Neil for a great trip (from Kentucky)and Great Show.
