A brief overview of The Archives project.

At the end of the youtube preview, there is a shot of 10 title screens of the 10 discs in Volume 1:

Early Years (1963-1965)
Early Years (1966-1968)
Topanga 1 (1968-1969)

Live At The Fillmore East
Topanga 3 (1970)

North Country (1971-1972)
Journey Through The Past (the film)

And a sharp eyed David S. notes the song list for Volume 1!

i don't get it....where's Come Along And Say You Will?

Bright Sunny Day??

there aren't many rarities listed on the tracklisting, save for the early stuff, before '66

then again, anything after the After The Goldrush era hasn't been listed...

Well, I tell you what, I am a lover of all things tech, but I'd pay more than a couple of bucks for that "analog scroll" Neil rolled out on stage! Now that was cool.........

Hmm, I've got a copy of Sell Out on a disc of Buffalo Springfield tracks that didn't make the box set. Cool song, too. Haven't heard of those other ones, though.

Come Along And Say You Will will probably end up on the next set, as it's from the Time Fades Away era...

Everyone seems interested only in format. But the big story is the tracklist. It does look amazing.
However I do worry about the lack of some material. The Comrie tapes for one is missing with songs like 'Don't Tell My Friends' and 'My Room Is Dark Cepting For The Light Of My Cigarette' plus others I can't think of right now.
The electra demos would seem to be there, but no 'I Ain't Got The Blues'. I was also hoping for a demo or something of 'Do I have to come Right Out And Say It'.
I also assume there are multiple versions of many of these songs. Like maybe you click on Mr.Soul and different versions come up.
Also given the amount of info you can fit on Blue ray why would the riverboat show only have 10 songs on it. Fill it up so we can here 'The Losing End' and 'Tulsa/Out Of My Mind'.
Anyway I'm not complaining, only wondering. I'll wait to see the real tracklist that Neil releases.

to the poster above...

that's exactly what i was thinking

this is the same poster who wrote wondering where Come Along And Say You Will or Bright Sunny Day was quite a few posts above...

did people check out the proposed track listing?

alot of repetition in songs, and alot of stuff missing, such as the songs you've posted

oh well...i guess you can't cover everything...maybe neil just couldn't find the material we're talking about

but see, that's the magic of blue-ray...as neil stated in the JavaOne Conference and as it's shown in the Archives preview...if something comes up, and he finds something missing from the Archives after it's been released, with all this new techonology,he'll be able to send it to us via internet

see...the man knows what he's doing

he doesn't need to fill it all up now

he's got his whole life to add anything he finds after it's release

good call, Neiler

There Goes My Babe may be with Comrie Smith. We got a hint suggesting as much from Neil's website back in 2000. What session do you suppose "Casting Me Away" and "Hello Lonely Woman" are from? Late Squires?

At 6/16/2008 02:48:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, in Shakey it says that Neil and Comrie recorded Hello Lonely Woman, Casting Me Away from You and There Goes My Babe. The tracks are apparently pretty good, so I'd assume the tracks are from that period. Anyway, what I'm really hoping to hear is Neil and the Horse's version of 'Look at all the Things'. I don't think it will be included though. All the other songs from those Horse sessions appear to be included though, which is at least something.

PS - On the Human Highway website there's a more complete listing of the tracks that will be on the Archives.

Note - On the Way Home, which was on the Riverboat previews that came with Chrome Dreams 2 looks like it has been omitted.

It was mentioned in an article there were 128 songs, but only 114 are here I think, so I’m not sure what to make of that.

The List is largely based on "the scroll". We know the scroll is incomplete for two reasons: 1) Neil Said so at the Java One keynote. 2) An example: The scroll doesn't list "I am A Child" from the Sprinfrield Era but we know that track is on the Archives from the video preview. So I think it is true that we will get more songs than what we see on this list, even though this is the msot complete list we have so far. I'd be surprised if we didn't get the CSNY version of Everybody's Alone or maybe some other things from the ATGR / CSNY era...Neil's got video of early CSNY. I know it got raided for JTTP but it would be nice to get some live footage of Cowgirl/Ohio/DBTR with CSNY. Don't you find it strange that there is no CSNY version of Ohio on the list? It's gotta be on the Archives one way or another....

You make some valid points LRR. But we'll never get to know exactly what's on there until Neil gives us the official track list, which I'm dying to read. But it's fun to speculate anyway. Also, the box set will apparently now be coming out also on DVD for a limited time in November, for those that want it on DVD. I'm going for the blu-ray one. Anyway, the package also comes with the 250 book, which is full of extensive liner notes and rare photos. I got the info from someone who was handed an Archives promo card at a recent Dublin show. Apparently they were handing them out to everybody.
