Absolute Genius. The people who were disappointed must have been the prawn sandwich brigade so f*ck them. I saw Neil Young in Hammersmith in London in March when he played 2 sets and it was mega. Last night in the Marquee was amazing too. I couldnt believe my ears when i heard some ol doll moaning that he didnt play enough hits and that she was disappointed that he finished up on a Beatles song. Jesus like, never again will she see such a unique talent in Cork again. He jammed like a man possessed last night and his cover of 'A Day in The Life' was amazing. Something the Beatles never got to play live and if they did i doubt they could have made it sound like that."

Have to agree Words was the hilight alos All along the watchtower and Oh Lonesome Me and Hey Hey, My My stood out
Dissapointed that we didn't get some of the other ones hes doing on a regular basis though. I know I can't pick the setlist but was looking forward to Mr Sould, and Powderfinger.

Hey Hey, My My and Words in particular were mindblowing, the acoustic set really worked in the enclosed venue, and the encore, A Day In The Life was the perfect finish as Neil went to work on killing his guitar, then set it on its stand and flayed feedback out of the thing with a handful of broken strings! I was hoping for Like A Hurricanebut what's the point in grumbling about the setlist after such a sublime performance.

Man though he can go on with the guitar jammin, but wasn't he enjoying himself and thats all the counts. He doesn't say much and 'heart of gold' was a real treat. 'Watchtower' was great, as was 'words' and the too short 'needle'. 'Nowhere' did not sound so good (just me?), 'love' too long and 'Mother Earth' is just danny boy and pretty dull at that. Hidden Path and Day in Life was great finale. So all in all a good night out and hope to see him here again. Is he 62? man he rocks into retirement age....MORE

Going to see him in Werchter and Weert later this week and month. The No Hidden Path in AMS was only 15 mins and itf it had lasted 26 it would have 5X better. Neil is the Godfather of Grunge. Crazy Horse (and i know this aint them) is a hard core loud guitar based band. When neil turns his back and rocks with Rick Rosas its not disrespect.....its respect......man he is in his zone for your fucking pleasure. Close your eyes, listen, see, feel........he is amazing. Hope his solos are 2 hours each in BE and NL.

But what a birthday party it turned out to be. He played just the right mix of golden oldies and recent 'hits' and extended some of them into ten-minute guitar solos. These riffs, at times so long as to almost seem an attempt to test our patience, would no doubt have tested my patience if I had been listening to a CD but seeing just how into it the man himself got was worth the ticket price. There were times where I genuinely thought he was in the throes of an epileptic fit. There's no way a 62 year old brain-aneurysm survivor should be writhing about the stage like that, I thought. During one guitar-accompanied reverie I found myself anticipating the following day's newspaper headlines - 'legendary rocker burns out on Cork stage', 'veteran Canadian songsmith hospitalised after epileptic fit during Irish gig' etc. etc.

I wasn't the only one who misread things though. So long did he extend some of his songs that the audience on a number of occasions broke into thunderous applause when they thought he had finally brought numbers like Words to an end. How wrong they were. Seconds after thousands of hands began to clap the guitar exploded back into action...

After Leonard Cohen's three hours on stage in Dublin I was a bit disappointed with Neil's two but my girlfriend pointed out that the exertion involved in 2 hours of leppin' about the place and thumping his guitar would have exhausted a man half his age (I think she was referring to me).

Btw, was it just me or did he seem to get mightily pissed off with the sound people more than once?

When you think about the people who really wanted tickets and couldn't get them, maybe if the cranks just stayed at home and listened to Harvest over and over while watching George Lee smile they would be happier, bunch of ignorant gits. Spontaneous outbursts of appreciation, I'd call it.
It'll be a long time before we see a gig of this intensity and invention in Cork again! The man is to be held in awe, I think.

Brought my gf who doesn't know that much of his music, only hits and a mix I gave her coming up to the gig (none of which was played!). She was blown away, mesmerised and shopping for cds this week.

My fourth time to see him, and the best.

Highlight for me, hard to say but maybe "love and only love", the hairs were up on the back of my next when you first hear his voice and the rocking groove.

Long guitar solos were mesmerising. I didn't want them to end. To those complaining, they're missing the point. Would they complain after seeing a long cadenza performed by a concert pianist? This was beyond music, it was Neil and his music taking us on a journey. And to think of the droves of ticketless rusties outside.

Day in the Life was superb also, what a surprise! (I had avoided seeing set lists from tour). Neil took the vibe, shook it around in his own unique way. Perfect end to a perfect night.

Neil knows exactly what he's doing when he's soloing...and if you had any musical intuition...or respect, you would shut up and listen to them. They will take you to another world. In fact, Neil's solos are one of my favorite things he does. I've NEVER heard any other guitarist reach the heights he does when he solos. The way he makes your spine tingle and raise the hairs on your neck and arms is unparalled in music, in my opinion!

I thought it was an incredible night. The venue was great, the atmosphere was electric and our man, to me anyway, was in spectacular form. I am disappointed to read some of the comments regarding the length of some of the guitar solos. From the opening notes of Love & Only Love, you just knew what was in store. This wasn’t going to be just rolling out 3 minute wonders. Instead we got 25 minute wonders. Now isn’t that value for money. I think some of our disappointed friends have forgotten that Neil is a ‘feel’ player. The grove is the most important element and for me anyway this is what makes him special.

I met a couple of Cork men crying into their pints in a bar in the city after the show. They felt cheated. In fact they were angry that Neil would appear in the ‘peoples republic’ and treat them with such little respect! One of the chaps indicated he owned all his albums and that this was his 5th time to see Neil live. I could not help wonder why then was the show so lost on him. When I indicated to him that he may not just ‘get it’ – I was met with a less than mannerly response.

Anyway – there is enough doom and gloom in Ireland these days, so it was marvelous to experience such a night as we were treated to on Monday.

I have to confess I also 'don't get' "Love and only love" at all, I think it's a pretty dull song, cut out for endless Crazy Horse headbanging but not much else. Nothing like "Hurricane", of course, or even "Change your Mind".

Perhaps they should have gone to Dolly Pardon instead. Pretty sure she would sing what her fans want each time.
Fair play to all there who made the atmosphere so great. You could feel the reverence. Pegi Young could not hide her delight with the crowd reation. Music is a two way thing. This was a match made in heaven and Neil Young felt the vibe. Everyone was rewarded with a legendary performance. It was probably a relief for him not to be playing to a vast outdoor semi interested festival crowd. If Neil Young does come back and play in Ireland i am pretty sure he will fond memmories of the Cork crowd. It was obvious his thank yous at the end were heartfelt.

Travelled from England and stayed for 2 great nights in Cork!
Saw Neil in Manchester in March each concert equally as good, off to Kent in the morning with 10 year old daughter who will be seeing Neil for the first time, shes very excited and keeps asking will he play Prime of life her fave ( no) and Hey Hey ( yes) anyhow its time for bed as 4 hour drive in the morning.
Rust radio now playing Oh, lonesome me.

Hope it stays dry.

I wouldn't say it was as good as Hammersmith earlier in the year (but nothing ever will be) but it was a 9/10 er without a doubt

Neil has always liked to play extended versions of songs from what i recall, and it was glorious to hear him do so in the big tent last week
