It's Only Money

With another Wall St. bailout set in motion, it gives us pause that we may not have any cash at all left soon. So what the hell? May as well spend it on a little fun while we can.

But seriously, the business with Neil Young concert ticket prices just won't fuckin' stop.

So when we get something that gives us pause, we like to share. So here's Shakey in Canada:
Wow! Neil has stirred up hornet's nest in the past because of his political point of view, but never over ticket prices. Who knows, maybe he's paying off the medical bills from his brain surgery, I'm sure they didn't give him a discount to save his life. Or just maybe they had him sign a few autographs and that should suffice.

How about we celebrate the fact that we can bitch about the price of admission instead of the price of Neil's commemorative release because his surgery wasn't successful.

This will be only the second chance in my life to be able to see Neil in concert, and I've been a fan of his since the age of 10 and I'm 46 now. This will also be the last chance I get to see my musical hero, the man who's music gave me the will to learn to play guitar, and show my 10 nieces and nephews what real music was during thier formative teenage years, or playing Niel tunes through headphones placed on my wife's pregnant belly for our two kids.

I'm being taken to this concert by two of my nieces, a 3 hr drive from Saskatoon to Regina, because I'm legally blind and crippled up from a rare decease called Devics Syndrome, not because they feel sorry for me, but because they know how important this concert means to me.

Next time he comes around I won't be able to go see my hero. If his music means as much to you, as it does to me, you'll find the money and you know the concert will be worth every penny. If his music doesn't mean that much to you, don't go, it's that simple. I don't want you there anyway, I want to be there with all the other Neil fans who are there who love the man's music and are going for a good time.

Very little in today's world that's worth anything isn't free.

Bless you Shakey. Enjoy the concert. I think you'll get your loon's worth.

Yeah I don't know what people are complaining about. I'm a student from N.Z and still managed to fork out money for quality tickets and flights to Aussie. I can't f***en wait!

RIGHT ON DUDE!! I couldnt have said it better myself! You only live once people! and what is the point of all this straining, sweating,& back-breaking work if you not going to use the cash to enjoy yourself? if your not going to use it to LIVE YOUR LIFE! You never know what tomorrow holds and I'd rather be the guy who spent this- the little time we're given on this earth Rocking out, air-guitar style while Neil grinds the most gut wrenching chords, riffs and feedback from, old black right before my very eyes... or at least looking forward to a Neil Young Concert-then the guy who stayed home worrying and counting his money, while watching American Idol. But hey, we all love Ryan Seacrest... dont we?

if all of us idiots quit paying such ridiculous prices, tickets would go down. neil, bruce, and def dylan are not worth it anymore! neil makes enough off of Harvest going platinum every year that allows him to live a lifestyle beyond any of us could imagine. All for writing Heart of Gold! I would assume that most of us neil fans bust our butts daily in one or more jobs just to make ends meet while certain artists, sports figures, movie stars do just fine for basically doing nothing. This blows a big hole in the american dream of, work hard and you'll make it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those who work the hardest seem to be the ones struggling, while those that so happen to write a popular song, have a pretty face, or are good at sports make a fortune. Oh, and also those 'smart' business men who make STUPID decisions get bailed out by the government with billions of dollars. Most people make bad money decisions in their life at some point and we're just punished for it by everyone from talk show hosts to the government. but when the rich mess up, well, they deserve not to lose their money, so the government needs to give it back to them.
something is very wrong in this society and neil young's ticket prices are a part of the problem. i sure as hell am not gonna pay $100 bucks to hear neil go through the motions on powderfinger, EBKTIN, heart of gold, etc. especially not for the ridiculousness indulgence that is his rendition of A Day In The Life!

you folks are feeding right into the hand of the greedy lion.Neil is rolling on the floor laughing and so is Elliot ! you people are just stupid. It's not an issue of can you afford it, the issue is what's right, fair, reasonable, ethical and at what point it is just extreme greed trying to take advantage and screw the fans.
But then this is the generation of greed and selfishness..... but Neil was never part of that shit before..... sell out ? I think it's reached that point.

Train Tickets to New York: $288

Hotel in Mid-Town Manhattan: $450/night (who's protesting the cost of a hotel in Manhattan?!)

2 floor seats at Madison Square Garden: $520

Getting to see Neil Young on the final night of his 2008 Fall tour: Priceless

I paid what to me was a pretty hefty price for two tickets to see Neil in March this year. It was worth every penny ... and more.

There are costs involved in producing concerts - transport, band payments, venue hire etc.

If he was coming back to Edinburgh tomorrow I'd pay whatever because I know I'll probably never get to see him again.

As somebody said, you only live once and if you have to pay a large amount of money to get the feeling I had in March (and since). So much of life is pretty humdrum - let's live a little!

Not to get into another controvertial topic but folks should realize that the real purpose for the 'bailout' is to save the average person not the Wall Street fat cats ... yes the politicians and the media like to distort the truth for ideological and political purposes which by the way is really sick, but bottom line is if the government doesn't step in the global financial system will crash ... this is not a sky is falling speech ... its reality ... already large banks are going out of business every day ... that means businesses can't borrow money to expand, can't borrow money to pay its employees, can't entend loans to keep its business afloat ... small and big businesses have the same issue as homeowners with variable rate debt - when it comes times to re-fi the rate is too high so just like homeowners are defaulting on their homes businesses are defaulting on their bank lines and then people like you and me will lose jobs ... yes we all feel angry about how the banking system got to this pathetic situation but the idea that we're 'bailing out Wall Street' is seriously distorted and doesn't help anyone's interest ... at least not yours and mine ... Bottom line is the Congress needs to drop the bogus political posturing and do what's right once and for all ... and ordinary people need to get educated about the facts so they realize this is about their jobs not about the Wall Street Banker's job which by the way is gone already ...

You know, when I think about all the money I've given to Neil Young since 1973 (when as a 14 year old I discovered "After the Goldrush"), I'm happy and proud to have contributed to an artist's ability to enrich my life in ways that far exceed that dollar amount.

it is you who are falling for the political BS...the bailout is nothing more than corporate welfare. if they get the bailout, then they are in charge and when corps are in charge, then that is what FDR called fascism. the bailout is to screw working folks. who the hell do you think is gonna pay for the bailout. us, the taxpayers. the same folks who pay for the ridiculous war we're in and the way overpriced neil young tix!

I think the Gov't should buy all the Neil Tickets so we can have free concerts.

If we don't bail them out, then maybe ticket prices will go down.
There wont be as many people around willing to pay $ 300 a ticket, and the ticket brokers will stop buying expensive tickets if that have noone to charge $ 1000 a ticket too. Fuck Wamu and the like. The bailout would come to about $ 2500 for every man, woman and child. If I could afford that, I'd buy tickets to every Neil show on the tour !
Vote Nader.

I think its a big conspiracy between the government, the big banks and Neil Young. They are OBVIOUSLY in cahoots, all interconnected and intertwined...I'm just still trying to figure out how...I mean... Neil is charging these high ticket prices right?, and the government is bailing out the big banks.. SEE! THEY ARE ALL WORKING TOGETHER to SCREW US!!!!!
Why don't you people find a different blog to complain about something worth while...like GAS PRICES,the cost of Medical care...the shit you need! Don't come here to talk about the government bail out...are you retarded? Sure it sucks..but I'm here to talk NEIL YOUNG Fuck it man..if you cant afford to go to the Neil Young CONCERT (emphasis on the word CONCERT)...DON'T FUCKING' GO!!! PLEASE!!!
And to the dude complaining that Neil makes a lot of money...and his shows are just him going through the motions...WELL Neil does have A LOT of money.. No shit Sherlock...why don't you write a Heart of Gold... or even a Let's Roll? Because you cant...and if you did it wouldn't be as good. Neil is where he's at for a VERY GOOD REASON and it isn't from 40 years of RIPPING OFF FANS. (why not mother-fuck Bill Gates? He's as rich as they come...and that son a bitch has the NERVE to charge me for computer software? what's the world coming to? Lets be communists!) Neil knows he has a core group of TRUE fans and its that reason a normal schmuck like myself can be up front for once. And you OBVIOUSLY NEVER REALLY SEEN NEIL PLAY LIVE! I've seen him 14 times and never once did I feel ripped off and I was AT FARM-AID ( my ticket? $45.) and let me say...you weren't! I'll be right in front of the stage at MSG on 12/15 and I CANT FUCKING WAIT..(my ticket? $75.00) I'll let you know how it was....you dingleberry.

I've seen Neil eight times in the last year and my property business is just about fucked. My mortgage payments are going up £1200 a month and I haven't got a job.

But I've been at eight Neil Young concerts in the past year and the memories of those concerts will stay with me for ever. I took some risks and borrowed several million now it's all going tits up.

The memories... the first night at Massey Hall! Ambulance Blues live! ... after having found Isabella Street earlier in the day! Third row, dead centre for the opening night at Hammersmith, a wonderful Tonight's the Night on the grand piano. And then the festivals! ! ! Tears roll down my face when the show opens with one of my favourite songs - Love and only Love. And the encore, inspired! And the last two I saw, in Berlin and Coburg - right at the front - small concerts - local support acts - just absolutely wonderful, and business is bad but the memories of those concerts will stay forever; cost lots of money but I'd have paid twice as much. Whatever happens to the mortgage market, whether I keep the business going or not, no one can stop me doing my meditation, practicing Tai Chi or reliving those concerts.

What about this one - Back in 1987 I was 19 and not learning a thing at agricultural college in Scotland, I heard that Neily was playing at Maple Leaf Gardens so I took the grant money that the government gave students back then and bought a flight to Toronto - and then it happened - Oh hello Mr Soul - and I'm going to Omaha in November and I don't care - THE TIGERS HAVE SPOKEN ( and they had some thought provoking words )

Yo! Giblet

That's the attitude!

I spent my last pounds on a ticket to Toronto last year - can't get into the usa cos I got busted with 57 roaches and 2 grams twenty years ago - anyway NEIL YOUNG at MASSEY HALL !!!

Don't have much money now but I was there !!! And that's the message to anyone ... for a catholic there'll always be a Pope in the vatican to go and see but there won't always be a Neil !

Go now!

Those of us who work every day to pay bills would much rather use the money to see Neil. Stop being negative and just be thankful that someone like Neil continues to give us concerts that ROCK! One night out to dinner is a $75.00 waste of money just prioritize folks. hmm...There is no question is there? Also,Neil doesn't come south anymore so we have to fly to the northeast or the midwest from Florida and well to see Neil I have my Philly ticket in my hand looking at Detroit too!
