Photographer Rick McGinnis said in an interview on the challenges of photographing Neil Young:
It was grim and humiliating, and I sat backstage fuming, muttering to every 'eager beaver' young photog that I'd never do this shit again. I was at the end of my tether after Pearl Jam, when we watched the band's girlfriends stroll into the area directly in front of the stage with super-8 and video cameras to shoot the band. I was still spitting venom when some She-Wolf with a clipboard from the promoter's office went around asking, in a surly tone, who each of us was, trying to cull the 'small fish' from the school.
When I told her I was from Spin, her whole attitude changed: she'd been unbelievably rude to the pros from the daily papers, and worse to the hacks from the local rock mags, but she was suddenly sweetness and light to me, asking me if I wanted to stay for the rest of Neil's show, that she'd get me a seat in the press box, that she'd check my camera bag personally at security while I went up to watch the show. I hate that kind of grovelling to the Big American Press, so I declined, and bolted from the stadium as soon as I'd shot my three songs."
